Welcome to the 22nd Annual Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival (PBJFF). Our mission is to take you on a cinematic cultural journey; to laugh, to learn, to remember and to rejoice, while viewing a broad spectrum of Jewish life. Films shown at the PBJFF come from all over the world and continue to offer you a rare glimpse into the Jewish experience.
This year we plan a new Opening Night for the PBJFF which will be held at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Cohen Pavilion. A pre-event cocktail party is planned for Film Society Members. In addition to the film we’ll be presenting a special musical performance by The Young Singers of the Greater Palm Beaches.
Once again, the PBJFF continues to grow. Last season we shattered all attendance records with 13,000 tickets sold. This season we’ll be in five theatres. Our screening committee has expanded from about a dozen people to over 30. This community involvement is evident in many of the new diverse choices that we will be offering.
You’ll notice in addition to the numerous Florida premieres, a wider variety of films. We’ll be introducing the PBJFF Classics Collection, short subjects and some outstanding Jewish films never shown before at PBJFF. Also, for the first time the PBJFF is introducing films for the entire family. Check the brochure for dates and times and please note that children under the age of 16 will be given a special price of $5 per film.
This season look for a number of films that have historical significance. JEWISH SOLDIERS IN BLUE AND GRAY coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. MAHLER ON THE COUCH commemorates the 150th anniversary of Mahler’s birth. EICHMANN’S FATE tells the untold story of Eichmann’s capture 50 years ago. The Hollywood classic, JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBURG, a multi-Oscar winner starring Spencer Tracy, Maximillian Schell, Judy Garland, and Marlene Dietrich was one of the first films to take us into the courtrooms in post-Nazi Germany, also celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Also new this year is the addition of festival “hosts” - authorities throughout our Palm Beach community who will be introducing a number of our films. Many of our films will be introduced by film makers, as well as members of our Academy of Continuing Education (ACE) teaching staff, and noted Rabbis and Cantors.
The Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival is one of the five largest Jewish film festivals in the United States and is the recipient of the 2011 Muse Award from the Palm Beach Cultural Council. We hope to make this year’s movie-going experience the most diverse, enjoyable season ever!
See you at the movies! |
